Rublev Oil Paint Medium White Beeswax - 1kg is a premium studio beeswax supplied as clean, easy-to-melt prills (pastilles), naturally derived from North American apiaries and naturally bleached to a soft white. White beeswax is the recommended choice for most painting techniques that call for wax because it stays stable over time, resisting darkening and discolouration far more than many oils or resins.

In oil painting, beeswax is valued as a paint stabiliser and modifier. It can reduce the gloss of oil paint to a more satin finish, increase body for a thicker, more “buttery” handling, and extend open time for longer working. When making your own oil colours, a small addition (commonly around 2% by weight) can help guard against pigment flocculation and improve consistency. Beeswax can also be used to make wax-resin mediums and protective coatings.

White beeswax is a core ingredient for encaustic painting. Melt the wax, add pigment (and optionally a resin such as damar or Venice turpentine), then apply warm to a prepared surface. Layers can be manipulated with heat and finally fused by “burning in” to bond the paint film.

Key features

  • Off-white beeswax prills (pastilles) for easy measuring and melting

  • Naturally derived and naturally bleached

  • Melting point: 62-65 C

  • Helps create satin finish, improves body, and supports paint stability

  • Suitable for oil paint modification, wax mediums, and encaustic painting
