Uses in Painting:

Retard drying of oil paint on the palette – place a few drops on a cotton ball and store it with your palette in a sealed container to keep colors fresh.

Preserve water-based mediums – add a drop to egg tempera, casein, glue, or watercolor to extend shelf life.

Reduce odor of turpentine – even a drop or two can impart a pleasant clove aroma.
Although some artists add clove oil directly to oil paint, this is discouraged as it can weaken the paint film. Instead, it is best used for palette preservation or in small amounts as a preservative.
