Rublev Colours Ultramarine Blue Green Shade is a classic synthetic ultramarine pigment (PB29) with a slightly greener bias compared to red shade ultramarines. It delivers the familiar luminous ultramarine character with excellent colour strength, clean mixing, and strong permanence, making it a core studio blue for paint making and traditional techniques.

Ultramarine Blue is a sulfur containing sodium aluminosilicate pigment that disperses easily in water and produces beautiful transparent to semi-opaque blues, vibrant violets with reds, and clean greens when combined with yellows. It is highly lightfast (ASTM I) and compatible with most pigments, but it is sensitive to weak acids, so avoid acidic supports, acidic mediums, or outdoor use where acid pollution and rain may affect colour. In oil, ultramarine has moderate oil absorption and can be harder to wet and grind than many other pigments, but it rewards careful dispersion with rich, glowing blues.

Key features

  • Colour Index PB29 (77007), synthetic ultramarine blue

  • Green shade bias for clean greens and cooler blue mixtures

  • Permanent and highly lightfast (ASTM I) in oil, acrylic, and watercolour

  • Suitable for oil paint making, watercolour, tempera, and traditional binders

  • Avoid acidic conditions and acidic supports due to acid sensitivity

Safety note: Considered low hazard, but avoid inhaling dry pigment dust. Use a mask and good ventilation when handling powder.
