Rublev Colours Yellow Ochre Dark is a premium French earth pigment sourced from the historic ochre deposits of Gargas and Rustrel in the Luberon Mountains. Produced from the last remaining European company still operating these famous quarries, this deep yellow ochre delivers a concentrated, warm golden tone prized by painters for its natural harmony, permanence, and traditional earth character.

Yellow Ochre Dark is based on goethite (iron oxide hydroxide, PY43) with natural clay minerals and trace components that contribute to its distinctive colour strength and classic feel. It is one of the most dependable pigments on the palette, valued for its excellent lightfastness and easy compatibility with other colours. Use it for landscape foundations, portrait underpainting, muted sunlight highlights, stone and soil tones, and natural green mixes when combined with blues.

Ideal for:

  • Grinding into oil paint, egg tempera, and watercolour formulations

  • Mixing into acrylic, fresco, casein, and grounds

  • Earth palette work, underpainting, glazing, and tonal studies

  • Creating warm neutrals, olive greens, and natural skin undertones

Safety note: While considered non-toxic, avoid inhaling dry pigment dust and use a mask and ventilation when handling powder.
