Rublev Colours Blue Ridge Yellow Ochre is a classic, single pigment earth yellow made from natural goethite (PY43) sourced from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Ground in linseed oil with no additives, it delivers a rich, golden ochre masstone and clean, warm tints that feel buttery and responsive under the brush.

This semi-opaque yellow ochre is prized for its natural warmth, excellent stability, and versatility. Use it for sunlit landscapes, skin tones, underpainting, imprimaturas, and mixing earthy neutrals. Its fine, smooth grind makes it easy to glaze thinly or build coverage, while its medium drying rate suits both layered painting and direct work.

Why artists love it

  • Genuine natural earth pigment from Blue Ridge, Virginia

  • Single pigment colour: PY43 (iron oxide hydroxide, goethite)

  • Semi-opaque with a warm golden hue and soft undertone

  • Lightfastness ASTM I and permanence A

  • Linseed oil binder, no additives for traditional handling

Great for mixing

  • With titanium white: creamy straw and sandstone tints

  • With ultramarine: natural, muted olive and landscape greens

  • With burnt sienna or umbers: warm earth neutrals and shadows

Note: Some natural separation of pigment and oil may occur. Mix or knead before use. Colour swatches are an approximation and may vary by screen.
