Rublev Artists Oil Paint Lazurite (Lapis Lazuli) – Series 9, 50ml is a genuine ultramarine blue made from natural lazurite pigment refined from precious lapis lazuli stones. Revered in historical painting for its luminous depth, this is the same lineage of blue associated with Renaissance masterpieces—offering a nuanced, authentic alternative to synthetic ultramarine.
Made by Natural Pigments for Rublev Colours using lapis lazuli imported from Afghanistan, Lazurite is ground in linseed oil with no additives (no waxes or stabilisers). In use, it behaves as a transparent, medium-grained, very long paint with medium tinting strength, producing soft, cool tints when mixed with white and building exceptional depth in thin layers.
Because genuine lazurite comes from natural stone, it can show subtle tonal complexity that many painters seek for glazing and atmospheric passages. It excels for glazes, skies, drapery, and layered blue shadows, especially over lighter underpaintings where its clarity and transparency can glow.
