Rublev Artists Oil - Armenian Brown Mummy is a rich, brownish red earth colour made from natural iron oxide (PR102) sourced from red earth deposits in Armenia. Historically, “mummy brown” was a name used for brown red pigments, and Armenian Brown Mummy continues that tradition in a modern, ethical way as a natural mineral pigment ground in linseed oil with no waxes or stabilisers.

This colour is valued for its warm, earthy masstone and soft undertone when tinted with white, making it ideal for portraits, landscapes, and classical underpainting. Use it to block in shadow masses, build warm midtones, or create subtle glazing effects where you want depth without an overly saturated red. Its semi-opaque handling gives strong coverage when used more thickly, while still allowing beautiful optical layering when painted thin.

With ASTM Lightfastness I and Permanence A, Armenian Brown Mummy is a dependable studio staple for work intended to last. The paint has a medium drying rate and moderate tinting strength, giving you excellent control for mixing natural neutrals and realistic skin tones. Pair it with titanium white for muted rose and clay tints, or mix with ultramarine and earth yellows for a wide range of warm browns and atmospheric greys.

Note: Because Rublev Artists Oils contain no added stabilisers, slight pigment and oil separation can occur. Simply knead the tube before use.
