Rublev Pozzuoli Red is a semi-transparent, deep orange-red earth with warm undertones and a beautifully natural, mineral character. This traditional red ochre is based on natural hematite (iron oxide) with associated minerals such as clay, chalk, and silica, giving it a restrained, earthy richness rather than a synthetic brightness. Rublev’s Pozzuoli Red is sourced from Italian earth deposits, then milled into linseed oil to produce a medium-grained paint that brushes long and lays down smooth, elastic strokes.
In palette work, Pozzuoli Red excels for warm underpainting, terracotta and brick tones, landscape earths, skin tone warmth, and glazing where you want a transparent red earth that builds depth without overpowering mixtures. It has low tinting strength, which makes it especially useful for subtle temperature shifts and naturalistic colour mixing. With titanium white it produces warm salmon to clay pink tints, ideal for portraits and sunlit architecture.
