Rublev Cyprus Burnt Umber is a rich, earthy brown made from natural iron-manganese oxide (Fe2O3·MnO2), the classic chemistry behind traditional umbers. This colour is known for its strong, practical performance in the studio: it is fast drying, mixes cleanly into deep neutrals, and, like most Rublev Colours Artist Oils, brushes long in the direction of the stroke for controlled, responsive handling.
Cyprus Burnt Umber is ideal for underpainting and tonal block-ins where you want an umber that sets quickly and supports later layers. Use it to deepen reds, warm blues into natural shadow greys, and create convincing darks without the harshness of black. Mixed with titanium white, it produces warm taupe and cocoa tints that are especially useful for portraits, hair, wood, and architectural neutrals.
