Rublev Lemon Ochre is a light, transparent yellow earth made from iron oxide hydroxide, the principal colouring agent in traditional yellow ochres. The pigment is based on the natural mineral goethite (α-FeOOH), occurring with small amounts of clay, chalk, and quartz that give this colour its gentle, earthy character. Unlike red ochres (iron oxide), yellow ochres contain water in their mineral structure, which contributes to their mellow warmth and natural clarity.

Ground in linseed oil with no additives, Lemon Ochre is semi-transparent with low tinting strength and fair covering power, making it ideal for glazing, atmospheric underpainting, and warming mixtures without overpowering other colours. It is especially useful for sunlit landscape passages, natural skin undertones, soft highlights, and building luminous layers where you want a clean, earthy yellow rather than a synthetic bright. Mixed with titanium white it produces creamy straw, pale sandstone, and gentle beige half tints that stay grounded.

  • Pigment: Yellow Ochre, natural inorganic PY 43

  • Binder: Linseed oil

  • Additives: None

  • Opacity: Semi-transparent

  • Tinting strength: Low

  • Drying rate: Medium

  • ASTM lightfastness: I

  • Permanence: A (permanent)

Note: Because Rublev Artist Oils contain no waxes or stabilisers, slight natural separation of pigment and oil may occur. Knead the tube to remix before painting.
