Rublev Italian Raw Umber Green (Italian Green Umber) is a distinctive earth pigment sourced from quarries in the Verona region of Italy. This fine, greenish-brown umber is made from natural earths coloured by iron oxide-hydroxide and manganese oxide (α-FeOOH·MnO2), giving it the classic umber usefulness with an extra green bias that is perfect for natural shadows, foliage neutrals, and subdued underpainting.
Ground in linseed oil with no additives, Italian Green Umber is semi-opaque with medium tinting strength and a fast drying rate. That makes it especially valuable for block-ins, lean underlayers, and painters who want an earth colour that sets quickly and supports subsequent layers. Its greenish cast helps neutralise reds and warm flesh tones subtly, and it is excellent for cooling and greying mixtures without the harshness of black. With titanium white, it produces khaki, sage greys, and earthy stone tints that are ideal for portraits, landscape structure, and architectural work.
