Rublev Italian Raw Sienna is a semi-transparent, warm reddish-brown earth colour with good tinting strength and a medium-grain pigment that, like most Rublev Oil Colours, brushes long in the direction of the stroke. This natural earth pigment is derived from quarries near Siena in Tuscany, Italy, linking it to the historic raw siennas prized by painters for centuries.
Ground in linseed oil with no additives, Italian Raw Sienna is ideal for luminous underpainting, glazing, and warm atmospheric passages. It’s a go-to mixing colour for natural skin tones, sunlit landscapes, stone, wood, and warm neutrals. Use it to gently warm whites and yellows, to soften greens, or to create rich golden browns when paired with earth reds and umbers. Mixed with titanium white, it produces soft caramel, honey, and warm beige tints that remain stable over time.
