Rublev Colours Cyprus Raw Umber Dark is a deep, natural earth brown made from genuine raw umber (PBr7) sourced near Nicosia, Cyprus and ground in linseed oil with no additives. This semi-transparent, medium-grained umber has a strong, dark masstone and mixes into clean, neutral greys and browns, making it a studio staple for shadows, underpainting and tonal work.
Because it is an iron-manganese oxide earth, Cyprus Raw Umber Dark is naturally fast drying compared to many colours, helping you build layers sooner without relying on extra driers. It also brushes “long” in the direction of the stroke, giving smooth, controlled handling for block-ins, grisaille, portrait shadows and landscape structure. Use it straight for rich darks, or tint with white for warm, earthy greys.
