Chroma Archival Texture Gel Medium is a textured variation of Smooth Gel Medium, formulated with ceramic beads to create a gritty, tactile surface. It mixes into oil colour smoothly, then firms up on the painting to hold raised brushmarks and add a crust-like texture that brings extra aesthetic interest to impasto work.

Because it moves easily while mixing and then sets up on the surface, this gel helps you control how colours interact. It can keep oil colours more separate for lively wet-on-wet effects, or remain blendable for wet-in-wet passages depending on how you work and how much medium you add.

Use it to:

  • Add a gritty, crust-like texture to oil paint

  • Build thick, tactile impasto and textured grounds

  • Hold brushstrokes and reduce slumping in heavy passages

  • Support wet-on-wet effects or wet-in-wet blending

How to use:
Mix a small amount into oil paint on the palette to increase texture and body, then adjust until you reach the level of grit and thickness you want. Apply with a brush or palette knife for the strongest textured effect.
