Chroma Archival Odourless Fat Medium is a healthier, low vapour alternative to traditional oil painting mediums. Because Archival odourless mediums and solvents evaporate much more slowly than turpentines, they produce minimal vapour during long painting sessions, making studio time more pleasant.
Formulated with fast-drying alkyd resins, this syrupy, heavy-bodied “fat” medium contains high solids to help oils dry faster and more thoroughly while increasing gloss, flow and levelling for a smooth, enamel-like finish. It is especially suited to experienced painters who work for extended periods on the same painting and want a richer, glossier paint film without strong solvent odours.
Use it to:
-
Increase gloss and depth for enamel-like effects
-
Improve flow and levelling while reducing brush drag
-
Promote faster, more even drying in oil paint layers
-
Add to lean mediums when you want a more glossy finish
How to use
Start with a small amount mixed into your oil colours on the palette and adjust to suit your technique. Because it is a “fat” medium, reserve it for later layers and glazing where you want increased flow and gloss.
Why artists choose it
-
Odourless and low vapour for more comfortable studio sessions
-
Alkyd based for quicker, more reliable drying
-
Heavy bodied consistency for controlled, glossy layers
